As a Conservative Republican, I hold the opinion that the free market is the best way for the economy to thrive, and that government regulation impedes this progress. If Net Neutrality was removed, the market would adapt to this new freedom and better prices would be established. It would not be in the best interest of ISPs to block Netflix and Youtube, as their customers would leave them and go over to the ISP who offers all of these things. Additionally, for people like businessmen who only use the internet for email and word processing, cheaper options could be established, allowing for better deals. If a company overcharges in any scenario, even with the Internet, its customers will leave because competition can exist in the free market. Those who are against the free market when it comes to Net Neutrality are ignorant of how the free market operates. As a consumer, no one is forcing you to pay for ISP-A’s service if they are charging you $50 a month for Netflix, and naturally a company ISP-B will recognize a gap in the market where people are overcharging for Netflix and they will come in and fill this gap with lower prices and they will become profitable. Monopolies can’t exist without government intervention. That is a cold hard fact which many people are ignorant of or are unwilling to accept. No one ISP can hold such a control over a market that no competitors can begin, unless there is government interference. This link from CNET (https://www.cnet.com/news/the-net-neutrality-fight-isnt-over-heres-what-you-need-to-know/) is an article that says that Net Neutrality is necessary to avoid slowing down internet speeds and ISPs completely limiting what sites are accessible. The fact is that this simply wouldn’t happen. It would not be beneficial for ISPs to stop you from accessing the internet. ISPs, or any other business for that matter, are not evil corporations who feed off of the suffering of people. The purpose of any business is to make money, and ISPs make money by keeping their consumers happy. If an ISP blocks all of your sites on the internet, you won’t want to stay with that ISP. An ISP who wants to make money will offer cheaper service, and you will go with that company. The ISP that is blocking your sites will go out of business, and you will be richer. The free market is the answer.
